Jon Pardi offered a sneak peek of an unreleased anthem on Honkytonk Hollywood, the country star’s fifth studio album set to release next month.
Pardi offered a brief preview of “He Went To Work” on Wednesday evening (March 26). The Honkytonk Hollywood track spotlights Pardi’s signature, traditional country vocals as he sings: “He didn’t go to college on a full ride/ Baseball scholarship/ Didn’t head to L.A. or Broadway/ Trying to make it big/He didn’t take a few years after senior year/ To try to find himself/ He just did what he knew to do/ ‘Cause he didn’t know nothing else/ He went to work/ He’d get it done/ Do anything/ Under the sun/ Even when his hands/ Or his back was hurt/ He’d dirty up a blue-collar shirt/ He put his family and the good Lord/ Top of the list of what he loved to live for/ He’d drink a beer/ He’d hunt and fish/ Played catch with me/ And give mom a kiss/ He went to work.”
“All my albums have been rock and roll with a country flare – this one keeps on rockin’,” Pardi said in a statement when he announced his album’s release date earlier this year. “It’s also the most grown-up record I’ve ever made, all my soul basically. ‘Honkytonk Hollywood’ is for the Nashville that’s in my blood and it’s also a nod to my California roots. And right now, more than ever, I hope it’s a way to honor and lift up the people of my home state.”
So far, Pardi has released the title track, “Friday Night Heartbreaker,” “She Drives Away” and “Love The Lights Out” from his upcoming record. Honkytonk Hollywood will release on April 11. See the full track list below, and listen to a sneak peek of “He Went To Work” here:
