15 Ways to Make Adulting Easier

It's no secret that life is hard. Adulting sucks. But there are a few things you can do within the next 15 minutes to make your day a little bit better.

  1. Unsubscribe from emails. If there are emails that you automatically delete as soon as they get to your inbox, save yourself a little time and just delete them from the beginning.
  2. Clean off your nightstand. It's the first thing you see in the morning (when you reach over to get your phone). So make sure that when you wake up, you don't see a cluttered mess.
  3. Cancel subscriptions you don't use. Do I have a gym membership? Yes. Do I use it? Well... so why am I wasting the money every month? I have no idea.
  4. Unfollow THAT person on Instagram. A few months ago, I started unfollowing people on Instagram that I didn't want to see anymore. I know it sounds like an obvious thing, but if you need to be told that you don't have to follow those girls from high school/college anymore, here's your sign.
  5. Find someone new to follow. Replace that unfollow with an account that posts something you like. Whether that's corgis or inspirational quotes, it just has to be something that makes you smile when it comes across your timeline.
  6. Cook a good dinner. I know, it seems so much easier to just grab pizza on the way home, but there's a sense of accomplishment that comes with cooking and eating a really nice meal.
  7. Delete those apps you never use. Remember that one game you were obsessed with for like two weeks and then haven't played with in months? Yeah, go ahead and get rid of that one.
  8. Play your favorite song. The one that always makes you want to roll the windows down in your car and sing along at the top of your lungs. No easier way to get in a good mood.
  9. Call someone to catch up. Been meaning to call your mom? Need to call Grandma and catch up on all the family gossip? Go ahead and take ten minutes (okay, maybe twenty) and do it.
  10. Watch a cute video. May I recommend one of my Monday Mood Boost videos? They usually have a cute kid and/or dogs. Instant mood boost.
  11. Meditate. Download a meditation app. My favorite is Breathe. Most of them take less than ten minutes and I always feel so much calmer when I finish.
  12. Set bills to autopay. No more late fees for when you forget to pay something on the day it's due. All those late fees can add up really quickly and nobody needs that. Take the thinking out of it.
  13. Assign a laundry day and actually do all of it. I am guilty of this one every week. I say that I'll do all of the laundry. And I do. I wash it, I dry it, but then it sits in a basket at the end of my bed for a week waiting to be folded and put away.
  14. Caffeine. Yeah, that's the obvious one. Whether it's first thing in the morning or during that mid-afternoon slump, caffeine fixes it. So whether you're going for coffee or soda, just do it. I know. I'm a bad influence sometimes.
  15. Read a book. It's rare in this day and age to sit down and actually read a book, but it's worth it. Especially right before bed. It relaxes you just enough to actually go to sleep at a decent hour. What a concept!
